Jules Verne, Life and the relationship to British liturature

A breif life of Verne and his role in developing the modern science fiction novel and authors. i hope you like it.

Although Jules Verne was born in France and lived there most his life, his literature compositions influenced many writers world wide, and especially in other parts of Europe, and brought about a reformation in the writing of science fiction novels. From there he gave a basis of innovation that other writers could base there novels off of, and create there own science fiction novels.

Jules Verne was born in Nantes, France, in 1828. As a young boy, Jules and his brother would often tell stories and take trips down to the docks to watch the ships coming and going. When Jules Verne was 16, he decided he wanted to be a playwright and a poet, which eventually changed into author, even though his father wanted him to become a layer. It wasn?t until 1863 when Jules Verne published his first short story, ?five Weeks in a Balloon? after that however, Jules began to write much more, an average of about one book every year for the next forty or so years. In his books, he wrote of travels to outer space, submarines, helicopters, air condition, and motion pictures, all before they were all created. Jules Verne died in the city of Amines in 1905.

?Verne rode a wave of 19th-century interest in science and invention to enormous popular favor. Laying a carefully documented scientific foundation for his fantastic adventure stories, he forecast with remarkable accuracy many scientific achievements of the 20th century. He anticipated flights into outer space, submarines, helicopters, air conditioning, guided missiles, and motion pictures long before they were developed.?, "Verne, Jules," Microsoft? Encarta? Encyclopedia 2000.

Some of Jules Verne?s more famous works are, ?20,000 leagues under the sea?, ?around the world in 80 days?, ?Journey to the Center of the Earth?, and ?the Underground City?. These books and many others show his imagination in that he was writing about inventions and machines that hadn?t even been dreamed up before. And he was writing about going places few people thought to go, like to India in ?Around the world in 80Days? and to the center of the earth, ?Journey to the center of the earth?, where he told of dinosaurs who live in the earths core and of a civilization of people who have survived there without ever seeing the earths surface. He also told us of inventions to come, like the use of a submarine for exploration and war, and the use of SCUBA tanks in ?20,000 leagues under the sea?.

These revolutionary ideas lead to other authors writing science fiction novels about things some of the same ideas. Like H.G. Wells writing about the future in his novel ?The Time Machine?, like Jules Verne?s novel, ?Paris in the twentieth century?

?Jules Verne's energetic novels of which Around the World in Eighty Days is most famous laid the foundation for modern science fiction. He is said to have had a considerable influence upon H.G. Wells and many other writers.? According to LiteratureClassics.com Editorial Team.

This is why, even though not a British author, he deserves to be recognized in both British literature, and in world literature alike. He gave much to literature and gave a inspiration to not only authors and inventers, but to everyday people as he took there imagination to a new place that had never been explored before.
