Ovid

43 - 17

Roman poet whose often frivolous verse has never ceased to be entertaining and inspiriational.

Born to a middle class family near Rome at around 43 years BC, Ovid quickly turned his attention to poetry. Throughout his life, he wrote a large number of works which varied extensively in style, content and form. Some of his early works include didactic poems and fictional love letters. His outlook changed drastically, to ones of despair, when he was exiled to Tomi for writing a piece about the art of love.

Ovid was interested in mythology and his most famous piece, Metamorphoses deals with mythological transformations.
